An impressive hiking area with over 200 kilometers of marked hiking trails is laying in front of you. Filzmoos offers hiking trails for all levels, from beginner till experienced hikers and climbers.
The Dachstein, the second highest mountain range in the northern limestone Alps, is one of Austria's most popular hiking areas, with dozens of peaks above 2.500 meters. The Dachstein massif is dominated by the glaciers with rocky summits rising beyond them. Glaciers are uncommon in the Northern Limestone Alps, and those on the Dachstein - the Hallstätter Gletscher, the Großer Gosaugletscher and the Schladminger Gletscher - are the largest, as well as being the northernmost and the easternmost in the whole Alps.
The footpaths are well-signposted and are classified according to level of difficulty: blue paths are easy and suitable for gentle walkers, red paths are medium-difficulty suitable for active hikers and black paths are difficult and should only be attempted by experienced mountaineers or when accompanied by a mountain guide.
As a certified Bergfreund guesthouse we are offering interesting hiking packages in cooperation with Filzmoos Aktiv, containing guided mountain hikes with a local mountain guide for free. Check out our special Bergfreund offers!
Don't forget to hold a break in one of the many mountain huts! Enjoy the typical Austrian 'Gemütlichkeit' and taste the home made products like bread, butter, bacon and cheese.
On the website of the tourist office Filzmoos you'll find an overview of some signposted hiking trails.
